Moroccan Terror Group Declares War On Its Government But Not With The Help Of AQ

Al-Salafiya Al-Jihaiyah issued a statement on October 25, 2005 stating that the time had come to perform jihad on the government of the "disbelieving and oppression" who "sold the country to the infidels..."

This group also stressed that it does not want help from AQ. It is formed on Salafist beliefs and wants to perform jihad it's own way. It does not condemn AQ, it just wants to do things on it's own. The leader of this group is one Mohamed Abdelouahab.

Here is a partial translation:

"The mujahadeed in Morocco are announcing that the jihad on the government of the disbelieving and the oppression has arrived!!

"This government has sold the country to the infidels after clearing it from the true Muslims who cherish Islam.

"It is common knowledge that the Moroccan government arrests Muslims who like Jihad..... The suppressors want to get the Muslims, especially the Sunnis, out of the way....."

"..... The arrest of anyone related to the Sunni people we are most certain was connected to Moroccan Intelligence from Casablanca. And it is well known in Casablanca that the Jews do not leave their homes on Friday nights!!

"Then who will explode the graves?...."

"After the Sunnis were captured and its membership was dissolved, a secret organization of Sunnis emerged.

"We have continued our preparations in spite of all our obstacles and difficulties...."

"Ansar Al-Jihad, while we support AQ, we are going our own way in our way of jihad. Hopefully those who know about our country will understand our decision.

"Our league now officially calls on all Moroccan mujahadeen to now concentrate solely on the jihad in the Moroccan peninsula and to concentrate solely on turning Morocco into a purely Islamic state."

US Government: Morocan Group Linked to Madrid and Casablanca Bombings

The US Federal Register put out a notice that Secretary of State Condi Rice has declaired Morrocan Group GICM (Morocan Islamic Combatant Group) a terrorist organization with links to the Madrid and Casablanca bombings.

Once designaated as a terrorist organization, no one in the US can give material support to any member of this group. It also prevents any member of this group from entering the US, and all assets of this group held in the US are frozen and reported to the US government.

According to intel analysts, the group emerged in the late 90's and included members who trained in Afghanistan and have ties to other groups in Northern Africa and throughout Europe.

GICM also engages in smuggling weapons and forging documents.

Some members of the group are tied to the 2004 Madrid bombings that left clost to 200 people dead.

Additionally members of this group are tied to the 2003 Casablanca attack which left close to 50 people dead.

Why Algerians Are Doing This

In documentaries I have seen over the years, there is a tendency for these suspects to be related to someone in the general population. Many young men have gone "missing," if you will and their families go looking for them.

As in other places, the religious movement has been heavy recruiting ground. There is a large split between the classes and the lower the income the more likely religion comes into play.

So in short, the voters are not necessarily voting for amnesty for terror suspects, but for their missing family members to come home or make contact.

Finally, Algeria is no stranger to terrorism either and some of these votes may have something to do with fear of another attack, although a higher percentage likely voted this way do to the aforementioned paragraphs.

Algerians Vote For Amnesty For Terror Suspects

ALGIERS (AFP) -- Algerians have turned out en masse to vote on a peace charter presented by President Abdelaziz Bouteflika as the only hope of ending a conflict that has left 150,000 dead but which opponents dismissed as a pretext to extend
presidential powers. Interior Minister Nourredine Yazid Zerhouni said the turnout was 79.49 percent in Thursday's referendum whose approval will result in many of those jailed for the killings being freed.

"This strong turnout bears witness to the will of the Algerian people to resolve once and for all the crisis in Algeria," Zerhouni said on public television.

The results of the referendum were expected to be announced Friday during a press conference, with the Algerian press sharing the widespread belief that a "yes" result was guaranteed from the 18-million strong electorate.

Bouteflika launched a "civil reconciliation" initiative at the start of his first five-year term in 1999, leading to a partial amnesty for thousands of Islamists who laid down their arms.

The program was endorsed overwhelmingly in a referendum, and Bouteflika was reelected in 2004 largely because the peace initiative helped quell the fighting that erupted after the army cancelled an election in 1992 which Islamist politicians were
poised to win.

The violence has eased considerably in recent years, but some 50 people have been killed in September during referendum campaigning.

Algeria

Algeria has long been an Islamist terrorist haven. I am working on a few things today that I will post regarding efforts to once again rile up jihadists in that country. Photos of Algerian Heads of State as well as Algerian journalists have been making their way to fundentalist message boards lately. These photos were put on as "hits" not out of admiration. I cannot reproduce the photos, but I can give names where ever possible.
