Australian PM John Howard confirmed today that his country's intelligence has received specific information on imminent threats to his country.
Mr. Howard does not want to jeopardize counterterrorism efforts by giving out details, but suffice it to say that he has "readjusted" the terror laws as of today.
Howard gave a nationally televised conference whereby he informed his citizens that police and intel. confirmed that terrorists are planning an attack in Australia. He explained that an amendment to counterterrorism law was essential at this time and needed to be done "as soon as possible".
The specific amendment would be that when one is prosecuted for a planned terror attack, the authorities do not have to specifically describe the act itself. This will enable groups to be banned based on intelligence that they are preparing an attack versus having to outline the specifics of an actual and determined plot.
This brings the Australian laws more in line with the British laws of this time.
